Psychometric testing is "the testing of an individual’s ability, personality or aptitude in relation to a particular setting". Psychometric tests are becoming increasingly popular in assisting Irish companies to recruit the most suitable candidates.
At principle hr we are qualified to administer tests and provide feedback on a report basis. We are BPS (British Psychological Society) approved and hold level A and B certificates in Psychological Testing.
It is estimated that 70% of UK organisations test their workforce for either personality or ability prior to making a job offer. Can your company afford not to?
At principle hr we advise clients on the most appropriate tests to undertake for a particular role. We also ensure that all tests are reliable and valid. We have facilities to test a number of candidates at one time or on an individual basis. Testing can also be conducted at client sites if required.
Reasons for utilising psychometric tests:
- Competitive Advantage
Personality profiling can identify candidates whose personality most suits your organisation culture. Testing can help identify to a greater degree and with greater certainty the most suitable candidates.
- Greater success in identifying softer skills (people skills)
Employees not only need the ability and skills to carry out a role, but also to be able to lead and build teams (when necessary). Through personality profiles we can understand to a greater extent the softer side and preferred working style of potential employees.
- Reduce risk of litigation
Testing is not only reliable and valid but also avoids discrimination against applicants. More organisations in an attempt to reduce their risk of litigation are using "fair testing" as part of their selection process.
principle hr Research Study
In 2005 principle hr undertook a research study to investigate the effectiveness of personality testing; 80% of organisations who took part found it to be an effective and useful tool when administered by qualified personnel ensuring that tests were valid.
The organisations also found after utilising personality tests the candidates they chose were more appropriate than previous candidates.
principle hr always advise our clients that although personality tests are a very effective tool they should not be used in isolation, but as part of the overall selection procedure.
Structured interviews are the most commonly used selection tool, with 56% of the study favouring this method in conjunction with personality tests.
Over 50 organisations took part in the study. Organisation sizes varied from 10 to 200 plus employees
